About OneRandomName

OneRandomName generates a single random name on demand — a quick stand-in for a test user, a dummy record, a workshop example, or anywhere else you need a placeholder person without typing one by hand or using a real one.

How it works

Press Refresh for a new name, or open Options to pick between first names only or full names, male, female, or a mix, with or without alliteration. Names are drawn from real first- and last-name lists and combined randomly; any resemblance to an actual person is coincidental.

Open Options to also change the page style — Business Card (the default), Dark, Terminal, Windows 95, or plain unstyled HTML — if you want the page to look a particular way for a demo or a screenshot.

Create a QR contact

The "Create QR Contact" button turns the current name into a scannable vCard QR code, handy for mocking up a business card or a contact entry without putting a real person's details on it.

History

This site was created in early 2012 — see the archived snapshot on the Internet Archive. It was originally a companion site to ListOfRandomNames.com. After losing the application server that ran it in 2022, the site is back, replatformed with a little AI assistance using only HTML, JS, and CSS.

FAQ

Is this free to use?

Yes, with no sign-up or usage limit.

Are these real people?

No. Names are randomly combined from first- and last-name lists; any match to a real person is coincidence.

Can I get more than one name at a time?

This page always shows one name at a time. For a list, see ListOfRandomNames.com.
